BIO / CV

Hi, My name is Boodi Kabbani (b.1989), I’m a Syrian actor who is based between Helsinki and London. I have done work with theatre, film, and TV in Damascus, Beirut, Finland and Sweden. In my work, I’m driven by wanting to combine different elements of performance art and my own experiences to create new ways to challenge the structures of the medium, and to question the stereotypes when queer and non-queer people of colour are being represented on the stage or screen.

I worked in theatre production and talent management before emigrating to Finland in 2014. I have been a member of the Finnish national touring Saimaa Theatre since 2016, and I have also worked with Viirus Teater, Teater Mars and Svenska Teatern in Helsinki.

I have played a leading role in the film 'A Moment in the Reeds' which premiered in 2017 at The BFI London film festival. After the premiere, the film had toured multiple festivals internationally and has gotten a theatrical release in multiple countries worldwide. For this role, I was awarded as the best male actor at The Nordic International Film Festival in NewYork 2018 and was also nominated for the Best supporting actor award, at the Finnish film awards (Jussi Awards) in March 2019. Since then, I have done more acting work in Films e.g. (FIGURE SKATING.2019), TV series e.g. (Hamilton.2019 and Cargo.2020), and other stage work and radio theatre.
